Pick the number

Choose how loud it feels.

  1. −14 LUFS Dynamic
  2. −11 LUFS Balanced
  3. −9 LUFS Full · default
  4. −8 LUFS Extra loud

All four loudness choices use a −0.1 dBTP ceiling. Lossy encodes can peak higher than the WAV. Louder targets use more limiting; listen for the balance you prefer.

How it decides

Five stages, in this order, every time — upload, then four the engine runs.

  1. Measure the mix

Loudness, true peak, range, tilt and stereo width, on the file as it arrived.

  2. Match a finished record

The tonal target is one curated master, the same for every mix.

  3. Render to the target

The loudness you picked, under a −0.1 dBTP ceiling. If it cannot get there under the ceiling, it stops short and states the shortfall.

  4. Measure the file you get

Every file is decoded and measured again before it is offered. The numbers on the page come from that check.

When the record needs a conversation

An engineer’s sound, tested and built to run on its own. And a person in every decision, when you want one.

Tuned by a working mastering engineer. The targets the engine matches were built and tuned by an engineer with more than 20 years of credits.

Illustration: one master’s tonal shape, over time.

One of the engineer’s own masters. The tonal target every mix is matched to comes from the engineer’s own catalogue.

Tested against human masters. The chain is scored against human masters it has never heard, on tonal tilt, crest, loudness and loudness range.

Personal mastering keeps a human in every decision. Work directly with a mastering engineer who listens to your music and makes the mastering decisions, without automation.

Questions

Common questions.

Do I need an account?

Not to hear it. Drop a mix, pick a target, and the finished preview plays in full with both sets of numbers. An account is asked for when you want the file.

What does the preview cost?

Nothing. It is the full master at its mastered loudness against your original mix. Payment is for the download, per track or unlimited.

Does the preview play at the master’s full loudness?

Yes. The master and your original each play at their own level, so you hear the actual loudness change. The readings for each side are shown beside it.

What if the target cannot be reached?

It delivers what it reached without breaching the ceiling, and states the shortfall.

What formats?

WAV, AIFF, FLAC or MP3 in, mono or stereo, 44.1 to 96 kHz, up to 1 GB and 12 minutes (6 minutes above 48 kHz). 24-bit WAV, 16-bit WAV and MP3 320 out, on every paid level.

Can I change my mind?

Run it again at a different target. The preview is free every time, up to 20 masters a day on the free tier. On Unlimited the new master is included; per track, each master you download is its own purchase.
